So, tonight, we continued our annual tradition of officially welcoming graduating 6th Graders to join us for Youth Group.
Each year, we try to come up with a fun and clever way to welcome them in. Sometimes, we reference culture or look for what’s relevant to them. Which is how we came up with our theme of FORTNITE: Real Life Edition.
Water balloons were our main choice for ammo.
And we reused boxes that we had first used when we kicked off Youth Group by playing a gigantic version of Angry Birds.
The game was a bit of survival of the fittest meets last man standing.
And when I looked at the faces of the kids as they ran around pelting each other with nerf darts and water balloons, what I saw was sheer delight.
This guy had fun as well. As I’ve mentioned, we are officially at our 15 years of Youth Ministry mark. And it makes me so happy that we continue to find joy and fun in what we do.
We had a very fun group of graduating 6th Graders.
They were half excited to be there, and probably more excited to live out one of their favorite games.
While some of the elements that we incorporated were from Fortnite (like our Kool-Aid Chug Jugs) some were just fun things that we found at Target. Like this giant unicorn that gave your squad invincibility powers.
The last element that made this night a great success were the Shark Tank water balloons that we picked up at Costco. Back in the day, we used to hand fill and tie each water balloon giving us a very limited supply and sore fingers from making so many knots. But thanks to the Zuru Bunch O Balloons that filled up 100 balloons in 60 seconds, we went through over 1,000 in our three rounds of the game.
A huge thanks to everyone who joined us tonight and made our event a great success! We look forward to welcoming the graduating 6th graders to join us for all of our Youth Group events from here on out and are thankful for an incredible evening getting to know them while playing a wonderfully fun game.
