A few things. First off, you’ll have to pardon my blog’s appearance. I’m in the process of changing formats and it’s a work in progress. It was one of three things I was multitasking this afternoon and it’s still not quite what I want but it will get eventually. Moving along. Tonight, when my husband asked me the usual dreaded question of “What’s for dinner?” I smiled and said, “Winner Winner Chicken Orzo Dinner.” Because that was exactly what we were having, compliments of Hello Fresh.
For the record, I admit, I usually should probably know what we’re having for dinner more than ten minutes before it’s time. But if I’m being honest, some nights I’m not so sure. Cooking dinner has never been my favorite. For a variety of reasons, that will just sound like first world complaints so I’ll keep them to myself. That being said, this is where meal subscription boxes like Hello Fresh come to the rescue. Because they take all the hard work out of making meals. They measure and prepackage and send you a recipe card and really just make it so simple.
Truly, so simple, a ten year old can prepare it. Which is what our ten year old actually does.
Like most moms, I’m tempted just to want to do everything myself. Especially when it comes to making meals. Because it’s quicker and less messy, I suppose. But for the longest time, I’ve tried to catch myself on this. And lately, our daughter has been wanting to help out more and more, so I let her.
For the record, she does a fantastic job. She chopped and mixed and poured like a champ. And the more she’s helped out, the more I’ve realized that she is quite capable and that it really is quite nice to have her cooking with me.
Tonight’s Winner Winner Chicken Orzo Dinner was a great success. It was accompanied by Cheesy Roasted Zucchini and Tomatoes and everything hit the spot. (For the record, we added the extra slices of parmesan cheese, because we like things extra cheesy.)
We all agreed that Ellee and Hello Fresh did a fantastic job of making our dinner tonight and I could not have been happier or more proud.
That being said, with all the pros there are also cons that should be shared. For the most part, I’ve actually loved most everything about Hello Fresh. The portions are big (we personally end up making the 2 person dinners stretch for 4 with out much effort… you can always add an extra to go with it if you need more for your family) and everything is always so nicely packaged up. The food is fresh and delicious and not having to think about what to make is always a pro as well.
The cons for me, would be the price. For three, 2 person meals (again, we add a little and easily make this stretch for the four of us) it’s $59.99. Which is about $10 per person, which isn’t horrible. Truly, the food is fresh and delicious and better than take out for sure. However, if you use any of the links in this post or click here, you can use my referral code and get $40 off! Which means that you could get your first three meals for $20, which is kind of an amazing deal. And Hello Fresh makes it easy to skip weeks or just cancel if it’s not right for you.
So that would be my mini Hello Fresh review. If you want to check it out, click any of the links and enjoy it for an awesome introductory price :).
*Disclosure… The links are my personal referral links for Hello Fresh. If you click on them and are a first time customer, you’ll get $40 off and I’ll get $20 as a bonus. Win, win. Or should I say, winner, winner. That being said, the opinions shared here are solely mine :).
