“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.” – Patches O’Houlihan, Dodgeball
For the record, I’ve never actually fully seen the Dodgeball movie. But I can quote a few of its quotes and doing so always makes me smile. To be honest, I have a love/hate relationship with Dodgeball. I love that most all of our Youth Group students love it. I love that it’s something that we can play in our church basement (which is no gymnasium and is obviously limited in space). And I love that it gets kids moving and is a relatively healthy activity. But then I realize that I personally think it’s terrifying to have people throwing balls at your head as hard as they can. So there’s that.
All that being said, thankfully I’m not in charge of our Friday Night 1st and 3rd activities. Jeremy is, and yesterday, he decided to host a Dodgeball night for our teens. Overall, it was a great success. Because it was fun and no one cried and all of the kids had a great time. Here are some fun shots from the night. Thanks to everyone who joined us and also to those who adequately remembered the 5 D’s of dodgeball: Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge.
Shoutout to this guy. He’s one of my Hangtime kids and showed up with his brother for a little dodgeball fun. Granted, this was a Youth Group event, which meant that he and his younger brother were up against 7th-12th graders.
But they both held their own.
At one point, Ralph ended up saving the day for his team. He was the last person left and made a comeback so miraculous it resulted in a huge win and a great celebration. He gained true admiration from our teens for his dodgeball abilities and it was a pretty fun thing to witness.
In case you’re wondering, again, this was part of 1st and 3rd, which basically means that every first and third Friday of the month, we host an activity night for our 7th-12th graders. If you have a son or daughter and they need something awesome to do on a Friday evening, check out our Youth Group website for our future 1st and 3rd events.
