Hello everyone! My name is Ellee Herr and this year I am participating in Hoops for Heart. Through this program, I will learn about the importance of taking care of my heart, while getting good exercise and having fun. Most importantly though, I will be raising money and awareness to help other kids who are struggling with heart disease.
Hoops for Heart is a project that is extra special for me, because of my Aunt Sarah (my Mom’s sister). When she was in her Senior Year of high school, she had to have a heart surgery to fix a coarctation of her aorta.
It was a big surgery, but through many prayers along with the amazing team of doctors and nurses at the University of Michigan hospital, Aunt Sarah’s heart was fixed and she was able to recover in good time.
Aunt Sarah would go on to lead a very happy and healthy and full life. She’d even have five babies in the years to come.
Today Aunt Sarah is doing just fine, and keeping very busy in Michigan taking care of her family. Last year, she came out to visit me in New York and I loved spending time with her and my amazing cousins.
I love my Aunt Sarah and I want to honor her this year as I participate in Hoops for Heart. During this event, I will be shooting basketball hoops during my Physical Education class. I’ve set a personal goal of $250 to raise in honor of my Aunt Sarah. If you would like to donate to the American Heart Association through my Hoops for Heart page, you can do so my clicking here.
