One of Jeremy’s favorite stories about Michael goes like this: They were talking one day about sports, and Michael told him, “You know… I used to be the best athlete in my class. But then I joined band.”
And from everything we knew about Michael, it totally made sense. Michael was always naturally athletic, but it was his love of Band that took over as he grew older (you can’t tell from the picture, but Michael’s green sweatshirt was from the ESM Marching Band and he wore it many times throughout the years).
Michael played Percussion all throughout school at Eastport South Manor. It was something that he was incredibly passionate about and he was also very talented at it as well.
My friend Theresa shared this picture with me recently. She told me that her daughter (and I’m sure others) really looked up to Michael when he was the Percussion captain for Marching Band.
Michael attended Eastport South Manor Jr. Sr. High and graduated with the class of 2015. I’ve shared many times about the many interactions we had with Michael in church and youth group, but along with all of that, Michael was a very special part of his Jr. and Sr. High School. He was a friend to everyone and was very involved with the music departments. Michael definitely made an impact at ESM and today it came full circle.
On our ESM Community page on Facebook, I saw this posting and it was so incredibly heartwarming. Basically, Michael’s Jr. and Sr. High School is doing a fundraiser for him and for his family. A few of our youth group students were talking about it this week and our son Christian also came home with information about it. He was insistent that he would bring his own money in to help with this fundraiser, knowing it would make a difference for the Einfeldts and for Michael.
I’m so incredibly proud to be a part of this community. If you are local, please consider any way that you might want to be involved with this fundraiser. The picture below gives all of the information and what can be done to help.
Michael very much loved his school and it’s so beautiful to see the ways that his school is supporting him and his family. Thank you so much to the College English Classes for organizing this incredible fund raiser! I know it will be a huge blessing to Michael and to his family as they continue to journey through this recovery.
