There is so much good news to share tonight that it’s hard to know where to start.

First, thank you so much for all of your prayers for Michael’s Neurology appointment on Tuesday.  I talked to Sally after the appointment.  I could hear a peace and calm in her voice as she shared and immediately I knew that our prayers were answered, just in this simple observation.

Michael’s shunt is working at its lowest setting and there weren’t any big changes to report.  We can continue to pray that God will bring healing to Michael’s brain, but we can also be so thankful to know how far God has brought Michael from the first day until now.

Sally also shared that at first Michael’s Neurologist seemed concern about the progress.  He commented about it being a year since Michael’s accident, but when Sally reminded him that it happened in January, he said, “Wow, it’s only been six months?”  This simple statement made me so excited to think about the things that Michael will continue to learn and do in the next six months to come.

Then this evening, I received the most wonderful text ever.

Sally shared that she had walked into Michael’s room and that he was just getting set up in bed so he still had his speaking valve on.  Sally then shared so beautifully that Michael looked at her, and he said, “Mom.”

Oh, that simple, beautiful word.

It’s hard to type this without getting a little choked up and it’s still kind of hard to believe that something so wonderful happened today.  I had talked to my sweet friend Emily a few weeks ago who is studying to be a Speech Pathologist, and she shared that often times speech comes back much later in recovery.  Large motor skills and fine motor would come, and most likely then speech.  So my expectations were pretty simple and I figured it would be awhile till Michael was able to express words again.

But he did.  And for this we just thank and praise God!  Psalm 19:14 says, “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”  I have no doubt that Michael’s word tonight was pleasing in God’s sight.  And I have no doubt that God will continue to be a Rock for Michael and his family and the He will indeed continue to Redeem Michael’s life from the day of his accident.

Tonight, I just thank God for His answers to our prayers.  I thank Him for loving and saving us and for how He is working for Michael.  Please continue to pray.  And please know that God is indeed hearing our prayers for our dear friend Michael.
