I got an email from Claire on the very first day of March. She told me that she was looking to have a portrait taken of herself for her husband to celebrate their upcoming anniversary. A few days later, I called her up so we could go over some details about the session. “I really don’t like to have my picture taken,” she shared with me right away. “That’s fine,” I told her, “Because I don’t really like to have mine taken either so I totally understand.” I then went on to tell her how it was always my goal when I shoot any session, that my clients were comfortable and that we would work together to get some beautiful portraits that would capture her heart and her personality.
On the day of our session, I could not have been more thrilled with the beautiful day that we got. It was unseasonably warm for March and it wasn’t terribly sunny. I actually prefer cloudy days, because they usually make for the most beautiful natural lighting. We met up on the Long Island Sound and it was a gorgeous location for our session.
While I shot, Claire and I talked about anything and everything. Our personalities “clicked” right away and we really did have a lovely time together.
I was really so thankful for Claire and for her willingness to put herself outside of her comfort zone to try something new. She told me that she was so excited to surprise her husband since this was something that he would never expect her to do.
When I showed her her beautiful portraits, she was so excited. She ended up keeping the secret of our session from her husband for quite a few weeks, until their April 1st anniversary celebration. She sent me the sweetest email that night, and shared:
“My husband was speechless when he saw our pictures!! He was so surprised and thrilled to have them… I want to thank you again for making my project so special for me. I am so blessed to have worked with you but even more blessed to have met you. People might say oh they’re just pictures of myself, but as you have said it was like bearing my soul. You gave me a gift that I would be able to pass on. In sum, I had one of the best times in my life and I will never forget you, Laura.”
I was blessed and honored to be able to work with such a beautiful woman, both inside and out. As a photographer, I love what I do and I absolutely love meeting up with people to capture special times in their lives.
Life has been very busy these days, but as the weather warms I am definitely looking forward to working with more people like my beautiful client, Claire. If you’re looking for a special way to capture life, contact me and we can set up a photography session today.
