“You belong among the wildflowers. You belong somewhere close to me.” – Tom Petty
So, if you are in Eastport and you drive along Montauk Highway and turn onto South Bay Avenue, heading down towards the docks and the Bay, about halfway there, you will see a small flower cart to the right side of the road. Handwritten signs will tell you that for only $5, you can purchase a colorful bunch of beautifully grown Zinnias, soaking sweetly in a clear glass mason jar. They are fully ready to be gifted, or taken home and enjoyed.
If you find yourself here, you’ve found the Tuttle Flower Cart. And this is where we found ourselves, one hot summer afternoon.
“Mom, let’s buy the flowers!” Ellee excitedly exclaimed. And then she continued, “We can give them to our friends.”
It was a beautiful idea, so that is exactly what we did.
Because the Tuttles are dear friends of ours, we also got the bonus of getting to go into the flower field to cut a few flowers on our own.
Ellee was delighted with the experience.
She carefully combed throughout the hundreds of perfectly formed flowers for a beautiful bouquet of her own.
And after paying for our four vases of flowers, we set out through Eastport to deliver them to our friends. Ellee placed a handmade card with each bouquet and every recipient was delighted with her simple gift of beautiful flowers.
And I write this simply because I love to share the good things in life. Freshly picked flowers are definitely on my “good things” summer list. If you are local and looking for a cheery way to support a great business, you should take that drive down South Bay and pick up some flowers (the exact address is 31 South Bay, Eastport, New York). Jonathan Tuttle is the guy behind the flower cart, and I could not recommend anyone better to support. He grew up in Eastport and is wonderful, amazing and hardworking. We know him and his family quite well and they have been an incredible blessing to us and to so many.
So find some time this week and go and check out the Tuttle Flower Cart. Buy a jar for yourself, give them to a friend, or do both. Either way, you’ll get the joy of supporting a local business while enjoying the beauty of a colorful bouquet of locally grown flowers.
