So, our official anniversary was this past Sunday. Since we had a Family picnic all day and then went right into an extra busy week, our celebration has been a bit sporadic. That being said, I did want to finish up this segment of “The Story of Us,” with a little post about our vows and the promises that we made to each other on our wedding day. Because it was one thing, at 22 years of age, to stand across from the man I was about to marry, and speak mere words and an entire other thing to really do my best to live them out for the past twelve years. All that being said, here goes.
On June 7th, 2003, I stood next to the love of my life and shared these vows:
I, Laura
Take you, Jeremy
To be my lawfully, wedded husband
To have and to hold
From this day forward
In good times and in bad times
Whether we’re rich or poor
In sickness
And in health
I will love honor and cherish you for all our days
According to God’s will for our lives
Jeremy, to this I promise you all my faithfulness.
Oh, those words have been lived out in so many ways over the past twelve years. My favorite parts, have been the having and holding and all of the good times. God has blessed our marriage in too many ways to count. Of course there have been tougher days too. The days where it just seems like so much work. Those being the days you just want to give up. But we haven’t. By God’s grace, we’ve been able to live out our vows, just as we shared them on our wedding day. We’ve had our good and bad times, our rich and poor times and our sick days in between relatively wonderful health. We’ve both grown in our love, honor and cherishing and continue to strive for God’s will in our lives as we move forward.
I’m so thankful for the promises that were made on our wedding day and look forward to continuing to pursue them with my best friend, and the man that I will love forever.
Thank you for sharing in our story. Here’s to many more years and many more stories to come…
