So, at the end of last summer, I shared about this little boating beauty here. It was Jeremy’s summer dream to have a little boat to take over to the beach and to fish in. And when that dream came true, we were thrilled. We enjoyed end of season boating through the beginning of the Fall and then put her away till the next season.
Which for us Herrs started yesterday when we got out our boat and took her for the first ride of the season.
It wasn’t the warmest of days, but we decided that it was finally time to head out to the Eastport docks to launch.
The kids were thrilled. Because we all love boating. It’s so relaxing and fun and therapeutic for our busy little family.
When our motor started up like a champ, we did a little cheer and were off.
We drove, or sailed, or boated (I guess) over to the back side of Cupsogue. The kids jumped out to go explore and Jeremy and I enjoyed a nice relaxing picnic dinner together. It was beautiful and absolutely perfect.
Until the fog rolled in. Which it did, and quite fast I should say. We admired it for a little too long before realizing that we needed to pack up quickly and head back home.
It was a little sketchy heading back. We couldn’t see anything. Jeremy was confident that his intuition would get us safely home, and whereas I admired his confidence, I was also glad to know that my phone’s GPS was working as well and could direct us should Jeremy’s intuition not come through.
Christian sat in front and was the lookout for other boats and after a bit of a scary ride back, I’m pleased to share that we made it home, safe and sound.
Which brings us to today. Because it turned out to be such a beautiful day that we hooked up the boat and headed out again. This time, we went to a tiny little beach where the kids kept busy finding bait fish and then fishing off the shore.
Ellee…
Loved the bait fish. She was also not afraid to stick a hook in them and for that I give her a lot of credit.
We spent the rest of the afternoon, soaking in the sun and enjoying another beautiful day on the water. Right before we left, Christian found and then gave a ride to this Horseshoe crab. Which just made me smile thinking of the awesome things that our kids get to do, growing up on Long Island.
On the way home, I breathed a quick prayer of thanksgiving. Because I’m so thankful for all that God has blessed our family with. I’m so thankful for Saturday afternoons spent together, relaxing, enjoying nature and the water and our amazing little boat. Happy Weekend to you too and thanks for stopping by!
