Throughout the past few days, we would randomly break out singing, “In West Philadelphia, born and raised…” It seemed to be the anthem for our family trip to Philly (and probably only makes sense to those who grew up watching The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire). Granted, we weren’t so much actually in West Philadelphia, but more so in the King of Prussia and then most recently, the historic, touristy area of downtown Philadelphia. And all in all, it was the perfect little Herr family vacation. Because we actually, vacated… If that makes any sense. We took it easy. We relaxed. We worked out (I’m proud to share I logged a good 10 miles on the elliptical and was also so proud of our kids who joined me in the hotel gym as well). We ate good food. We enjoyed a lot of pool time. A lot. Our kids love a good pool and hot tub, and the hotel had both.
Today, we ventured out to Philadelphia to see a few sights and take in the city.
We started out at the U.S. Mint. Admission was free but we had to wait in a pretty long line. The kids had fun playing on wall outside of the mint. To be honest, probably just as much fun as they had later actually seeing how all of our coins in our country are made.
Christian was proud to sport his Duke hat. We had a fun time in our hotel room, watching the championship game. Our whole family loves Duke and we were all thrilled that they won this year.
After taking the tour at the Mint (which was pretty cool) we wandered around the super historic area of town. We saw Independence Hall, the constitution building and then this awesome bell. I’d like to say that we saw it up close and personal, but there was a huge line, so we decided to enjoy it from an outdoor viewing area. It was like doing the skip the line pass at Disney, and I think we all appreciated it just fine.
All in all, our Philly trip was perfect. We relaxed, we saw a bit of history and we made it home, safe and sound. I’m so thankful for the amazing time that we had together.
