She told her Daddy that she would make him Chocolate Chip Cookies tonight. His all time favorites.
So she tied on her apron,
And found her recipe on the back of the Nestle Tollhouse Chocolate Chip bag.
She gathered up her ingredients, searching high
And low.
I proudly watched her read aloud.
“You can trust me, Mommy,” she said with great confidence.
And as she measured and poured and mixed, I watched with pride. “I’m getting this all from you,” she told me as she worked, “Cause I’ve been watching you.” And it was a great reminder, that our kids do watch us and a great encouragement to try to keep doing the good things that we want them to see.
“Look, Mom!” she exclaimed after cracking the egg. “I did it… perfectly!” And there was no denying the joy that came from her hard work.
She worked hard, from start to finish. I watched from a distance, lending advice when needed.
Daddy came in to help her put the cookies into the oven. He was as excited as she was.
And in the end, the cookies came out just perfectly. We all enjoyed them and Ellee was proud of her hard work tonight. I pray that she will continue to watch and learn, and I suppose that tonight I was also encouraged and reminded to make sure that I’m doing and modeling things that are worth her sweet observations.
