So, if you know anything about me, you know that I’m not a fan of cooking. Let’s be honest, it’s kind of a process. From thinking up a meal, to shopping, to unloading, to prepping, to cooking, to cleanup… it’s work. Which is totally why I’m a fan of trying all of the cook at home subscriptions these days. I’ve checked out Plated, and most recently tried out Home Chef, and this is my review:
Home Chef arrived a day late. Which was totally fine. Because of all of the crazy weather we had been getting. And it was nice, because I got a call and an email from Home Chef letting me know which I thought was thorough.
Now, in case you aren’t familiar, the idea behind Home Chef is that they think up the meal ideas, they gather the ingredients and then package them all together and ship them right to your home.
This is how the two meals and fruit selection that I chose arrived. Even if it were solely for the fact that I didn’t have to stand in front of the meat section at King Kullen and try to pick out something good, it would be worth it to me.
I added the fruit to my order because I love fruit. And I have to say that I was so impressed by the quality and taste of everything that they sent me. Especially since it’s winter and fruit selections at the store are iffy at best at times.
The first Home Chef meal that I cooked was the Gorgonzola Crusted Bone in Pork Chop and Green Bean and Grape Tomato Almondine. Fancy, right?
Home Chef sends out a recipe card with each meal, with simple step by step instructions.
It helps with time management and somehow also helps to build confidence for someone like me.
The recipe was surprisingly simple. It’s nice, because sometimes I think we get into our cooking ruts and it’s hard to think of new things to cook each night. But trying something like Home Chef is nice because it gives you new ideas which you can easily replicate after trying them out.
The Almondine was very fun to cook and something that I had never had before. It turned out to be my favorite part of the meal.
Jeremy, on the other hand, loved the Gorgonzola Crusted Pork Chop. Oh, and that’s another thing. It’s so rewarding to try something new and have your husband love it as well. I have to be honest, I was pretty proud. Everything was absolutely delicious. A few nights later, we had our other Home Chef meal. I was a little skeptical myself about that meal. I usually don’t cook steak, and have never in a pan. However, the Pan Seared Flat Iron Steak and Winter Medley Hash was incredible! It was another meal that Jeremy really liked as well.
So here’s the bottom line and a little food for thought. If you’re like me, you will love trying something like Home Chef. If you’re just looking for something new to try, you’ll love it as well. And if you’re just looking for someone to take some of the hard work out of meal prep, you’ll love it then, too. The exciting thing, is that if you use this referral link, you can get $30 off your first order to try Home Chef on your own. This is how I tried it. I got two, two person meals and the fruit selection as well, and I only paid $19.70 for it to be shipped to my home. Which is kind of a great deal, if you ask me. The downside, is that after your first order, it gets more pricey. So that’s when you can decide if it’s something that you would want to do again. But in my mind, it’s definitely worth trying out, and especially with the $30 off.
Besides all that, Happy Monday and thanks for stopping by!
