So, this afternoon, one of my all time dreams came true: My amazing husband Jeremy joined me at my gym for a class. I joined my gym almost three years ago. And for most of those three years, I’ve wished and hoped that Jeremy would somehow love the gym as much as I do. Why? Because it’s something that I really enjoy, so of course I would love to have my husband, whom I love, really enjoy it too.
To give a little background, Jeremy is really quite naturally athletically gifted. He loves and plays sports of all kinds. Football, basketball, softball are just a few of the ones that he excels at. I, on the other hand, am not a natural fan of playing organized sports. I’m okay at them, but not great, and it’s not really my thing to play them. But, I have found that I’m kind of good at the gym. More specifically, kind of good at going to strength and cardio classes and working my heart out and over the years, I know I’ve gotten healthier and stronger because of them.
Anyhow, Jeremy’s known that I’ve wanted him to come to a class with me. And today was that day. He picked the Intense Strength Circuit Training class with Donovan, mostly because our friends Victoria and Michael were also taking that class. And as silly as it might sound, I was absolutely delighted. One, because I love working out anyways. But two, because the man that I love the most was there to work out with me. And if I’m being honest, three, because I wanted him to see how hard I work when I go to the gym (he’s the only man in the world that I try to impress).
I’m happy to share that he was awesome. And it was definitely a hard class. When I said, “The last time that you lifted weights like that was probably…” he replied, “Probably never.” And I had a great laugh when he told me that he was going to “have nightmares of French Crullers or whatever they’re called.” For the record, “they” were called Russian Twists and we did a lot of them during the class. I think the class really gave him a great workout, to say the least.
All in all? I was super proud of my husband. It was something totally out of his comfort zone, but he was willing to do it for me. And I know that he was pretty proud of his wife as well, finally seeing firsthand just how hard I work when I go to my much loved gym classes. In addition to physical strengthening, I have to say it was also strengthening for our relationship as well, which is always a good thing. This afternoon, my husband did a great job, living out 1 John 3:18, “Dear friends, let us not words or speech, but in with actions and in truth.”
