A Prayer for Our Daughter

Dear God,

Thank you for our sweet Ellee girl.  She blesses us in so many ways and we love her so much.

Tonight, she struggled.  She cried hard tears while her bottom lip trembled sorrowfully.

And I can’t believe that I am writing this, but I just want to thank you for the times when she struggles.

Yes, it’s hard.  Yes, most every time, I just want to magically band-aid all of her troubles.  I want my Mommy love to be enough to fix her deepest sadness, to calm her struggling heart.

But I know better.  You are better and I know that You work beautifully, in our struggles.

I’m thankful, that tonight, when she cried her truth, that I got to share Your truth with her.  I’m thankful that I got to whisper words truer than she’ll ever see in the world around her.  I’m thankful that I got to remind her that You created her just as you wanted her to be.

I’m thankful that I got to remind her of the strengths that You’ve given her.  Of her kind heart.  Of her sweet smile.  Of her creative soul.  Of the fact that people just feel good being around her because she reflects Your goodness.

God, the world isn’t easy.  And her struggles seem really big at times.

But it’s the perfect opportunity, for You to work.  Thank you that You will help her.  That You will guide her.  That you will give her exactly what she needs.  Thank you that she will succeed, being that fearful and wonderfully created person that you have made.  Thank you, for the great plans and purposes that You have in store for our daughter.

Thank you, that as I spoke these truths to her, her troubled heart, calmed.  That she received peace and that soon enough, her sweet smile returned, and she giggled beautifully again.  I know we’ll have more moments like this.  And I know that every time, they will be hard.  But I also know that every time, you will work good into every struggle, and that your truth will strengthen our sweet girl.

Thank you for the precious gift that you’ve given us in Ellee.

Amen.
