Yesterday, we took our annual trip into the City to hand out food and clothing to people in need. Throughout the last month, amazing people from our church and community gathered together warm winter clothing. Many also provided new socks and blankets. And our church’s Knitting group, Scarves of Many Colors spent the past year knitting handmade scarves and hats for the trip as well. So we gathered up all of the clothing as well as some bagged lunches that our youth group students put together and drove into New York City to pass them out.
Ellee and Christian were excited to hang out lunches. Ellee was mostly excited because she had a reason to use her shopping cart and it ended up being perfect.
One of my favorite moments of the afternoon was when a group of our guys walked over to give a lunch and blanket to a man who was begging by this store. It was touching to see them step our of their comfort zone to help someone in need.
As with all years, we take the clothing that we bring in and hang it over the park’s fence. Then, all throughout our time there, people stop by and pick up what they need.
We also had extra fruit snacks that these sweet girls passed out.
We had a great group of students this year.
As well as a great group of leaders.
We are so proud of everyone who helped out for Serving the City 2014!
Here’s a little video to show more of what we did.
