First and Third, Thanksgiving Service Project

Every first and third Friday of the month, you’ll find us hanging out with kids from our amazing youth group.  We’ve done a variety of different activities with them, mostly involving game nights or a few rounds of Thunderball or Handball.  But last night, we decided to do something to help others.  So we gathered up a group of students and set out to do some Thanksgiving Day shopping.

Every year, our church helps out a variety of families in need with Thanksgiving baskets.  And this year, we found out that there were some additional items that needed to be purchased for these families.

I have to admit, it was fun to see the kids shop for the items on their lists.

All in all, they did a great job, and many even tried bargain hunting.

Ellee was mostly delighted to walk around with a purse full of cash.  She received some birthday money from Grandma, and her new favorite thing is to offer to pay for any and everything we find.  It’s so sweet, though we are trying to get her to keep her money and find some fun things to buy for herself.

Jeremy did a great job, supervising the students and finding new books to read.

After picking up the majority of our groceries at Stop and Shop, we then drove over to Five Below.  We had a list of some amazing ladies from our church that we wanted to purchase a few Thanksgiving gifts for, because they are amazing and because we love them.  Again, the students did a great job, picking out small gifts and being quite awesome themselves.

After we finished shopping, we stopped for a treat at Snowflake Icecream.

Because it totally makes sense to get the world’s best ice cream when it’s freezing out.  It was pretty delicious and no one seemed to mind eating cold ice cream on a cold night.

After everything, our Thanksgiving Shopping trip was a great success!  The students purchased all of the additional items that we needed, handed out four Thanksgiving Gift bags to four amazing ladies from our church and wrapped up the night with some homemade ice cream from Snowflake.  Thanks to all of the students who came out to serve with us!

I love Jesus, my Youth Pastor Husband and our two beautiful children. I'm a professional photographer and I love people, especially kids. My best days include time with my family, Hot Yoga and a Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream cone.
