We spent the majority of our Labor Day out by the Smithhaven Mall. We went to the movie theater, we shopped at the mall and we ate lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. It was a pretty fun family day for the Herrs. I thought I should disclose that, lest you see the following pictures and assume that we spent our entire day outdoors enjoying God’s beautiful creation. And please don’t get me wrong, because we did end our day doing just that. While the kids diligently hunted for bait fish,
I made friends with this seagull. Well, not really friends, I suppose, but it did let me get close enough to take this picture. I thought maybe it was sitting on a nest or something, but when I stepped too close, it got up and walked away and I realized it was just chilling, enjoying it’s own Labor Day no doubt.
After finding great success with the bait fish, we all hopped in the boat for a little family fishing.
We rode out towards this place, thanks to a tip from our fisherman friend Sean.
While the kids took turns fishing, I stopped to enjoy some Trader Joe’s Sparkling Spring water, aka seltzer. I’m trying so hard to like it, because I think it’s much healthier than regular soda. I’m coming to realize that there is so much sugar in most of the things that we drink and so anything I can do to cut that out will help a little, in the long run, I think.
Back to fishing.
Yup. It’s still hard. We’re getting pretty good at catching crabs, big and small. But we have yet to figure out the magic trick to catch a real live keeper fish. Every time we go out, Christian fully believes in his little heart that this will be the trip that we catch one. And I’m sure, one of these times, he will be right. Unfortunately, it wasn’t that time last night.
But really, it didn’t matter too much. Because we got to see this:
And enjoy this. And that pretty much made it all worthwhile.
On the ride back, Christian asked me if God was in that cloud. And I smiled, because to me, it totally looked like the kind of cloud that God might be in. My picture couldn’t do it justice, but it was pretty incredible.
And that summed up our Labor Day. Today, will be spent preparing for school, which starts tomorrow. I also have to work to get the house in some sort of order, since Jeremy and I will be leaving for a trip next Monday and our dear friend Esther will be hanging with our kids while we are away. All good things. Hope you all enjoyed a beautiful Labor Day too!
