For the past few weeks, I’ve been living with this uncomfortable feeling of being too busy and too stressed about being too busy. It’s not been great, I’ll be honest. And it’s hard. Because all of the things that I’ve been doing have been good things and things that I’ve wanted to be doing and things that have just needed to get done.
But I think I need a new approach. And honestly, my circumstances won’t be changing. These next few weeks will be just as busy as the last ones. We have BBQs and Graduation Parties and last days of school and packing for a Missions Trip that is just over a week away. But I’m hoping to change the one thing about my life that I can, and that is my attitude.
And it’s always best done, by focusing on more gratitude. In the past, I’ve kept a journal, listing the things I’m thankful for, listing the ways that God has shown his great love for me. And I’m going to start that up again. Because it just helps to put things in perspective. Today’s list of things I’m thankful for, would include (in no particular order):
– Nature Valley Peanut Butter and Dark Chocolate Protein bars. Because they are just really good. And I tell myself that they are good for me, because I think that for the most part, they are, dark chocolate and all.
– Seniors Day, which was yesterday. We took a group of our amazing high school seniors to Dave and Busters for a fun afternoon of games and ended with dinner at Chipotle. We also got our kids out of school early, and I would feel bad, but I don’t actually think they are doing much these days, which is fine, because in most parts of the country, the kids are already on summer vacation.
–Gym Classes. I love taking classes at my gym. And I never tire of being thankful to be able to go to them. I have the most amazing gym friends, and I love the camaraderie of working out and encouraging each other. And there is something just cleansing about sweating a lot. At Tuesday’s class, my entire shirt was soaked with sweat and instead of being embarrassed, I was just kind of proud.
–Rain. It’s God, watering my plants so I don’t have too. And I’m thankful for it.
–Ellee. She skipped into school today, in her high heeled sandals and her blue polka dot dress and that girl just makes me smile.
–Christian. Who is super excited about reading 1000 minutes this summer thanks to his school’s summer reading program. Well done school.
–Jeremy. Because he knows me the best and he still loves me. Because he’s working so, so hard these days. With our Senior Pastor leaving at the end of the summer, work has been busier and crazier for him and he is doing such a great job getting it all done. I love my husband so much.
And that would be my list. Or part of my list for today. I really could go on and on. It’s easy to complain about life. But it’s so much better to look for all of the amazing things that I can be thankful for, instead. Thanks for stopping by!
