She runs into the house calling for him.  “Daddy!  Daddy, will you push me on the swing?”  And even though he’s just settled in to watch a World Cup game, or a basketball game, or any one of the many games that dads watch, he shuts off the tv and goes to get his shoes.  She runs out ahead of him, jumps up on the swing and waits patiently.  And confidently.

Because she knows.  She knows that her Daddy will be there and she knows that her Daddy loves her.  She knows that soon enough, he’ll be right there, helping her along.  And I smile, knowing something that she may not have thought much about.  And that is that her Daddy will always love her and that he will always be there to help her with whatever she needs whenever she needs it.  Because she has an incredible Dad.

On this Father’s Day, I stop and am reminded that my family is incredibly blessed.  I had (and still have) a great dad.  He was also a great swing pusher.  We had a huge rope swing in the woods where we would go camping, and as he pushed us higher and higher we’d laugh and giggle and feel like we were flying.  When my Mom gave us a quarter for candy, we would run to my Dad who always passed out the dollars.  And when my Dad worked third shift, he would come to school and take us out to lunch, so we could spend time together.  Most importantly, my Dad taught me and my sisters to love Jesus and gave us a firm foundation for our faith to grow from.  Over these past years, my Dad has moved up into the role of Grandpa and he’s done a great job of taking on the job of loving and spoiling his grandkids.  Jeremy has also been blessed to have an amazing Dad.  Over the years, I’ve learned that he’s pretty similar to his Dad who is such a caring and compassionate man.  I’m also pretty sure that Jer got his love for sports and electronics from his dad as well.  And again, most importantly, Jeremy’s dad was a huge encourager in his relationship with God and love for serving.

I’m thankful for all of the amazing fathers that are in our lives.  I’m thankful for my husband, who excels in his role as a Dad.  Our children adore him and he adores them back.  It’s a precious thing to see them all together and to know that there is such a bond between them.

So Happy Father’s Day to all of the amazing men out there who get to share that title.  We are so thankful for you, your hard work and for all that you do!
